Anna Brooke
Anna’s writing career started in journalism as a film critic for Time Out Paris. Today she is the author of eight travel guidebooks for Frommer’s and has written for multiple major publications, including the Financial Times, The Times and The Sunday Times Travel Magazine, where she is a long-standing France expert. She is also an award-winning children’s book author, known for middle-grade comedy and interactive picture books. Recent titles include Death by Chocolate and Murder Unwrapped, the first books in a new cozy crime series, Coco Bean Investigates, set in France (and inspired by her guidebook travels). When not writing, she has been an actress and an electro-pop artist, performing on stage and composing songs for films and commercials. Raised in Britain, she now lives in Paris with her French-Canadian husband and son.
Anna Brooke is a Paris-based travel journalist and children’s author who is as much at home writing travel guidebooks as she is authoring laugh-out-loud kids’ novels.
Her career began as a film critic for Time Out Paris. From there, she branched out into travel writing, contributing to the Time Out travel guides, then becoming a Paris/France expert for the U.K.'s Times and Sunday Times Travel Magazine. An avid traveler, she has been a Frommer’s writer for more than two decades, authoring eight guidebooks to Paris, France, and more recently Switzerland.
Over the years, she has made bread for the Financial Times, eaten crickets in San Jose for The Sunday Times, and walked through Paris’ sewers for Time Out. During Covid, she gave on-the-ground accounts of life in Paris for The Times. She also covered the 2024 Paris Olympics and Paralympics from a lifestyle and travel perspective.
On the digital side, Anna spent around 7 years on large-scale editorial projects for a big-tech maps giant, researching, writing, and editing copy for over 80,000 hotels and restaurants around the world.
Fiction-wise, she is known for award-winning middle-grade comedy and interactive picture books. Her novels, Death by Chocolate and Murder Unwrapped (the first books in a new cozy crime series for children ages 8 and older) are set in France, and were inspired by both her guidebook travels and the real-life spooky happenings in her Parisian apartment—where she still lives today with her French-Canadian husband, son, and adorable cocker spaniel.
